WATER SUPPLY SCHEME, SOLAN FROM RIVER GIRI

Solan town is situated on Kalka Shimla highway No. 22 at a distance of 45 Km. from Shimla. Due to its good climatic & geological conditions people from the surrounding areas are settling down here, resulting in the rapid growth of the population. Keeping in view the future growth and scarcity of water in important places like Barog, Dharampur and other areas, the population of 114 census villages has also been added to this project.

On the basis of the above, the present water requirement comes to be 10.07 MLD against the available capacity of 6.27 MLD. To bridge the gap between demand and supply, additional water will be required and there is only one feasible source i.e. GIRI RIVER. The proposal to provide water for Solan town and 114 other villages was accordingly prepared, keeping in view the growth projections for 30 years. The estimate has been administratively approved for Rs. 51.46 crore. This Project has also been approved by HUDCO for financial assistance. The work has been almost completed and Scheme is being tested for commissioning.

At present 60 lacs litres water is being supplied from DWSS Giri River to Urban area and 30 lacs litres to Rural area. In addition to this 35 lacs liters water is being supplied to urban area of Solan Town from existing LWSS Ashwani Khud and there is no scarcity of water in urbanized area in this summer season.
