Prestigious Water Supply Schemes WATER SUPPLY SCHEME FOR SHIMLA TOWN Water supply scheme for Shimla town was constructed
in the year 1875. Thereafter, its augmentation was done in 1889, 1914,
1923, 1974,1982, and 1992. AUGMENTATION OF WATER SUPPLY SCHEME SHIMLA Nauti Khad (Gumma Pumping Station) For source level augmentation, a proposal has been approved for lifting of 4.54 MLD per day from Nauti Khad down stream of Gumma. The A/A and E/S to this work has been issued by the Government amounting to Rs.9.46 crore. The first stage has been completed. The work of second stage is in progress. River Giri To supplement water supply to Shimla Town, an estimate
amounting to Rs. 40 crore to add 20 MLD of water from river Giri at
Baleog near Sainj has been approved. HUDCO is providing loan assistance
for the project. The work has been almost completed and Scheme is being
tested for commissioning. Solan town is situated on Kalka Shimla highway No. 22 at a distance of 45 Km. from Shimla. Due to its good climatic & geological conditions people from the surrounding areas are settling down here, resulting in the rapid growth of the population. Keeping in view the future growth and scarcity of water in important places like Barog, Dharampur and other areas, the population of 114 census villages has also been added to this project. On the basis of the above, the present water requirement comes to be 10.07 MLD against the available capacity of 6.27 MLD. To bridge the gap between demand and supply, additional water will be required and there is only one feasible source i.e. GIRI RIVER. The proposal to provide water for Solan town and 114 other villages was accordingly prepared, keeping in view the growth projections for 30 years. The estimate has been administratively approved for Rs. 51.46 crore. This Project has also been approved by HUDCO for financial assistance. The work has been almost completed and Scheme is being tested for commissioning. |
